GMAT Official Guide是每一个考GMAT的学生必须具备的书籍。里面的每一道题目最好做2遍以上（尤其是错题，一定要好好分析体会）。很多同学告诉我，OG的答案不够清楚。事实上，OG的有些讲解试图绕开一些需要补充的知识，例如什么是溯因推理，分词的用法等等，因此往往显得不够清晰。因此，我想我每天抽出一些时间，写一道OG的题目，帮助大家学习。

8. （难度650）From an experiment using special extrasensory perception cards, each bearing one of a set of symbols, parapsychologist Joseph Banks Rhine claimed statistical proof for subjects who could use thought transference to identify a card in the dealer's hand.
A. for subjects who could use thought transference to identify a card in the dealer's hand
B. for a card in the dealer's hand to be identified by subjects with thought transference
C. of subjects able to identify with thought transference a card in the dealer's hand
D. that subjects could identify a card in the dealer's hand by using thought transference

本题读完题意后知道proof这个抽象名词后面应该跟同位语从句来解释，而不能用介词短语for subjects (claimed proof for subjects, proof是什么？)因此，排除A,B,C

剩下两个选项，我们对比，第1个差异是时态，我个人认为两个时态都是正确的，因为could延用上面的过去时，而are capable用现在时表示scientific result – true regardless of time。都可以。第二个差别就是be capable vs. could
注意be able to do sth
Be capable of doing sth (be capable to do sth – WRONG)
这是idiom, 只有死记，不要问我为什么

另外E中用for identifying，即for doing表示目的，注意正式书面英文中用to do/in order to do表示目的，不用for doing （for doing 表示原因是可以的）

答案：D

这是一道全划线题，在GMAT中一般全划线题是难题，因此考试的时候如果遇到，你应该高兴才对，因为说明你进入了高分段。

首先，读完这句话，理解意思，it作为形式主语指代后面的不定式to be both feasible as well as desirable表意是错误的（illogical）。而且both…as well as…也是错误的平行对称结构，同样的问题也出现在C.

而扫描的时候，我发现B中，Currently used by… 是过去分词做状语，其逻辑主语是修饰的动词has found的主语，即a joint Canadian-Russian study。这是illogical的，因为意思是study is used by two or three planes a day。

E中found study as both feasible and desirable是错误的，这里的as是介词，后面跟介词宾语，原文意思为both a feasible and a desirable way，但这个way前面没有，因此也谈不上省略。
因此答案是D。
